The College of Engineering offers nine degree programs. The list below gives an overview of what each major involves. Click on the link for the department to see examples of projects, research and jobs that each field has to offer.
Chemical | Civil | Electrical and Computer | Engineering Physics | Engineering Technology and Surveying | Industrial | Mechanical and Aerospace
Chemical Engineering (ChE) |
Chemical Engineers design new power sources, keep our water clean, and help manufacture the thousands of chemicals which make modern life possible. The following degrees are offered in Chemical Engineering at NMSU:
Civil Engineering (CE) |
Civil Engineers design buildings, dams, bridges, roads, and other components of our social infrastructure, ensuring their safety and usability. The following degrees are offered in Civil Engineering at NMSU:
Klipsch School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (EE)
Electrical and Computer Engineers design the hardware and software we use every day, from cell phones and i-pods ® to satellites and lasers. The following degrees are offered in Electrical Engineering at NMSU:
Engineering Physics (EP)
EP Faculty Engineering Physics merges the theoretical science of physics with the more practical discipline of engineering. Engineering Physicists specialize in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. The program is offered jointly by the College of Engineering and the Department of Physics (College of Arts & Sciences). It is the only engineering physics degree program in New Mexico. The following degrees are offered in Engineering Physics at NMSU:
Engineering Technology and Surveying Engineering (ETSE)
Engineering Technology Brochure (.pdf) | Surveying Engineering Brochure (.pdf) Engineering Technologists build, repair and test the designs of engineers. Specializing in Civil, Electronic and Computer, Information and Communication, or Mechanical Technology, technologists bridge the gap between designer and user. Without technologists, the designs of engineers would just be scraps of paper. The only Engineering Technology degree programs in New Mexico. The following degrees are offered in Engineering Technology at NMSU:
Industrial Engineering (IE)
Industrial Engineers design efficient processes, from figuring out how many check-out stands a grocery store needs to how paper flows through an office. The only Industrial Engineering degree in New Mexico. The following degrees are offered in Industrial Engineering at NMSU:
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (ME/AE)
AE Program Brochure (.pdf) | ME Program Brochure (.pdf) Aerospace Engineers design develop, and test aerodynamic vehicles and spacecraft as well as their related systems. NMSU offers the only aerospace program in New Mexico. The following degrees are offered in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at NMSU:
