The College
NMSU Regents Professor
Welcome to the College of Engineering at New Mexico State University. From its beginning in 1891 with the first courses offered in civil and mechanical engineering, the College of Engineering has been a leader in preparing students for rewarding careers. Our graduates are highly sought by businesses and industry throughout the United States and in many foreign countries. Our faculty members have distinguished themselves with numerous awards in both teaching and research.
Our engineering program uniquely combines engineering fundamentals and design with practical, hands-on experiences, giving our graduates a competitive advantage in both industry and advanced graduate studies. We have built long-standing relationships with business and industry, along with governmental agencies and laboratories. As a result, our students are able to experience a variety of co-operative education and summer internship opportunities as well as real-world capstone design projects prior to graduation.
Active research programs expose graduate students to the cutting edge of knowledge in many areas of engineering. NMSU is ranked 10th in the nation for total research and development expenditures in engineering-related projects by the National Science Foundation. And the College of Engineering is ranked 62nd in the nation by U.S. News & World Report’s annual evaluation of American graduate school programs.
We are constantly seeking to increase the quality of our programs and find ways to better serve our constituents. Strong research initiatives in water, energy, aerospace, transportation and information sciences are implemented throughout our six departments. Our Institute for Energy and the Environment, Bridge Evaluation Program, Electric Utility Management Program, Manufacturing Technology Engineering Center and Center for Telemetering and Telecommunications are focused on solving societal problems through new technology developed in our research and extension programs.
Please take a look at our web pages and contact us if we can be of service through our education and research programs.
