CEMRC receives increase in funding for environmental support
The Carlsbad Environmental Monitoring Center (CEMRC), operated under the College of Engineering’s Institute for Energy and the Environment, recently received an increase in funding from Washington TRU Solutions. The increase of $52,000 brings total funding to $427,000. CEMRC is being funded under this contract to support Washington TRU Solutions (WTS) in complying with human health and environmental requirements in their operation of the only deep geological nuclear waste repository in the world, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant site, in Carlsbad, New Mexico. CEMRC is providing scientific and radiological laboratory support to the WTS radiochemistry group located within the CEMRC facility. This support is expected to be ongoing for several years.
