Hutchinson named manager of Sandia’s Surveillance Systems Department

NMSU electrical engineering alumnus Scott A. Hutchinson was recently named manager of Center 5300, Sandia National Laboratories newly created Surveillance Systems Department, 5349.  The new department will help address the growing customer base for surveillance and reconnaissance programs, and extend technology into new regimes. The department will also develop system concepts that link into other capabilities at Sandia and at partner organizations.

Hutchinson received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from NMSU in 1993 where his specializations were electromagnetics and computational electromagnetics. He then joined Sandia, where he initially developed optimization code for electrical defibrillation. After that, he worked several technical projects as a staff member; including as technical lead on the XyceTM parallel electronic simulator project, and leading an effort with the weapon systems organizations to determine future modeling and simulation requirements. Since 2005, he has managed the Electrical & Microsystems Modeling Department, 01437, where he has built a program of electrical modeling for several applications.
